Drive from the Clubhouse: 2.5–3.5 hours.
Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast are the far side of the state from Wesley Chapel — figure 2.5 hours to Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie down I-95 or the Turnpike, closer to 3–3.5 for Palm Beach Gardens and West Palm — so this is overnight-trip territory, not a dawn-patrol day round. What you get for the drive is the deepest concentration of championship golf on Florida's east coast: the PGA of America's own 54-hole public campus at PGA Village, the Bear Trap at PGA National, Gil Hanse's celebrated Park West Palm, and a municipal bench (Sailfish Sands, Sandridge, North Palm Beach) that would headline most other counties. The catch is seasonality — December through April is peak snowbird pricing and packed tee sheets, while May through October cuts most green fees 30–50% in exchange for heat and afternoon storms. The smart Clubhouse play: dial in the marquee course in the sim first, book a two-night Stuart or Port St. Lucie base in shoulder season, and stack a bargain muni around your bucket-list round.
PGA National Resort (The Champion Course) — Palm Beach Gardens
resort · $250–450+ (resort; forecaddie fee extra)
This is the home of the PGA Tour's Cognizant Classic and the infamous Bear Trap — the 15th-16th-17th stretch Jack Nicklaus rebuilt into one of the most feared closing runs in tournament golf. You're playing the exact water-guarded par 3s that drown Tour pros every spring, on conditioning kept at broadcast standard. Access runs through a resort stay or member connection, so book it as a stay-and-play rather than a walk-up.
For newer players: A genuine beating even from the forward tees — water everywhere and firm greens; save it until you can keep the ball in play.
In the encyclopedia: PGA National Resort (The Champion Course) — read the full write-up, and play it in the sim if it's in the catalog.
The Park West Palm — West Palm Beach
public · $60–300 (steep residency tiers; out-of-state pays the top)
Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner turned a dead municipal into a $55 million public-golf landmark that hosted The Match and instantly became the most talked-about muni in America. Wide corridors, wild green complexes, and a genuine dunescape feel on a piece of West Palm sand ridge, plus a par-3 course and lit putting course wrapped around a great clubhouse scene. Morning tee times are walking-only, which tells you what kind of golf this is.
For newer players: Fairways are enormous and there's little forced carry, so it's playable for newer golfers — but the greens will humble anyone.
PGA Golf Club (Wanamaker Course) — Port St. Lucie
public · $50–190 across seasons (summer dips under $60)
This is the PGA of America's own 54-hole public campus, and the Tom Fazio-designed Wanamaker is its flagship — a big, sandy, pine-framed championship test that regularly makes top-public-in-Florida lists. The practice campus alone justifies the trip: one of the best learning centers in the country, open to anyone. It's the closest thing the Treasure Coast has to a golf pilgrimage site, and it's the shortest drive on this list.
For newer players: Five tee sets and generous corridors make it fair, but it's a full-length championship course — bring patience.
PGA Golf Club (Dye Course) — Port St. Lucie
public · $50–190 across seasons
Pete Dye unchained: pot bunkers, coquina waste areas, and mounded fairways running through native scrub with almost no housing in sight. It's the most distinctive of the three PGA Village courses and the one architecture nerds drive for — a bracing contrast to the Fazio courses next door. Play it and the Wanamaker as a 36-hole day and you've had a full Dye-versus-Fazio education for less than one peak round in Palm Beach.
For newer players: Classic Dye visual intimidation and penal bunkering — a beating for beginners unless you play well forward and take your medicine.
Abacoa Golf Club — Jupiter
public · $60–175 (season-dependent)
The last course Joe Lee ever designed, and the best true daily-fee in Jupiter — the town where half the Tour lives. Rolling, genuinely elevated terrain (rare in South Florida) with water touching 15 holes and a reputation for keeping conditions sharp year-round. It routinely tops best-public-in-Palm-Beach-County conversations without a resort surcharge attached.
For newer players: Water on 15 holes punishes wild drivers, but multiple tee sets and open fronts keep it manageable from the correct boxes.
North Palm Beach Country Club — North Palm Beach
public · $60–160 (municipal pricing, winter peak)
One of only two municipal courses in America carrying the Jack Nicklaus Signature label — Jack lives nearby and rebuilt his home village's course in 2006, then touched it up again since. It sits on the Seminole Ridge along the Intracoastal, with oak hammocks and real elevation movement, minutes from the fabled Seminole Golf Club you'll never get on. Village-owned means you actually get a tee time.
For newer players: Friendly by Nicklaus standards — wide landing areas and honest greens — though it stretches past 7,000 yards from the tips.
Hammock Creek Golf Club — Palm City
public · $45–110 (season-dependent)
A Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II Legacy design from 1996 that plays 7,200 yards through Martin County pine and oak, at daily-fee prices that undercut anything comparable in Palm Beach County. Five tee sets on every hole and a low-key, golf-first operation on Golden Bear Way — the street name is not a coincidence. It's the quiet value play of the Stuart/Palm City cluster.
For newer players: Genuinely welcoming — every hole has five tees and the forward sets shrink it to a very playable course.
Sailfish Sands Golf Course — Stuart
public · $40–80 (municipal)
Martin County blew up its tired 36-hole muni and had John Sanford rebuild it around Florida's first reversible 9 — the Sands plays clockwise one day, counterclockwise the next, so it's two courses in one footprint. Add the renovated Sailfish 18, a Toptracer range with 20 hitting bays, and an ASGCA environmental award, and you get the most interesting municipal experiment on the east coast of Florida. Perfect second-day course after a marquee round.
For newer players: One of the friendliest stops on this list — the Sailfish 18 tops out near 6,200 yards and the reversible 9 is pure fun.
The Champions Club at Summerfield — Stuart
public · $45–75
A Tom Fazio design you can walk onto for the price of a mid-tier muni — Fazio routed it through wetlands and sand ridges in 1994 and the bones are all still there. Locals treat it as the best golf-per-dollar ratio on the Treasure Coast, and off-peak rates drop under $50 with a cart. Nobody drives across the state just for Summerfield, but everybody who's in Stuart for Sailfish or Hammock Creek should add it.
For newer players: Fair and forgiving for a Fazio, with wetland carries that are more visual than punishing from the forward tees.
Sandridge Golf Club (Dunes Course) — Vero Beach
public · $40–70 (county municipal)
Indian River County's 36-hole facility is routinely named among the best municipal golf in Florida, and the Ron Garl Dunes course is the headliner — cut through an old sand-mining ridge with real dunes movement you don't expect at this price. It's also the shortest drive in this guide, making it the natural first stop on any Treasure Coast swing. The Lakes course next door makes an easy 36-hole day.
For newer players: Very approachable — modest slope, open fronts, and municipal pacing that doesn't rush newer players.
The Saints at Port St. Lucie Golf Course — Port St. Lucie
public · $25–55
The city's own par-72 muni and the honest bargain of the region — walkable green fees in the $20s and $30s most of the year, ten minutes from PGA Village. This is where you burn the second round of a golf trip without burning the budget, on a mature layout with tree-lined fairways and enough water to keep you thinking. Zero pretense, all golf.
For newer players: An ideal beginner course — short, flat, cheap, and nobody minds a triple bogey here.
Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course — Palm Beach
public · $35–60
Eighteen par 3s on 39 acres pinched between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal, redesigned by hometown Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd — widely called the best par-3 course in America. Several holes play directly along the ocean, and you're hitting wedges where Palm Beach billionaires live behind the hedges. It's the perfect arrival-day or getaway-day round: two hours, ocean wind, and every club in the bag from 60 to 180 yards.
For newer players: Tailor-made for beginners and short-game work — no hole requires a driver and walkers pay the lowest rates.

Golf Balls: What You Should Actually Play
You can spend $600 on a new driver and gain four yards. Or you can spend $35 on the right dozen golf balls and change how every single shot behaves — off the tee, into the green, and on those little pitches that decide whether you make bogey or double. The ball is the only piece of equipment you use on literally every stroke, and it's the cheapest thing in your bag to get right. Most golfers never think about it. Here's what's actually going on inside that little sphere, and what you should really be playing.
