The Champion at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens was built by Tom and George Fazio in 1981 for major-championship duty and delivered fast: the 1983 Ryder Cup and the 1987 PGA Championship both played here. Jack Nicklaus's redesigns (most recently 2014) sharpened its identity around the Bear Trap — holes 15–17, a wind-whipped, water-ringed gauntlet named for Jack himself — and since 2007 it has hosted the PGA Tour's Honda Classic, now the Cognizant Classic, where it reliably produces some of the Tour's highest scoring averages.

The Bear Trap, holes 15–17: a long par 3 over water (15), a par 4 to a water-guarded green (16), and the terrifying all-carry par-3 17th. Nicklaus said tournaments 'should all be won or lost here,' and every February the leaderboard proves it.

One of the hardest regular Tour venues: relentless water, wind and forced carries. Beginners will lose a sleeve on the Bear Trap alone — play it for the story, not the score.

Our side of Florida: Palm Beach Gardens is about a 3.5-hour drive from Wesley Chapel, and the resort-guest requirement makes it a weekend trip, not a day trip. For a Tour-grade Florida test closer to home, Innisbrook's Copperhead in Palm Harbor is 45 minutes away.

Not reliably in the GSPro library — the Champion is an E6 Golf staple instead, so we can't queue the real Bear Trap in our bays. Closest GSPro substitutes for the water-everywhere Florida Tour test: TPC Sawgrass, or Innisbrook-style tight Florida tracks. If a community build appears, it'll be an instant Clubhouse challenge night.

Resort course — you must be a resort guest, member or member's guest. Peak-season fees push $450 plus a required forecaddie (~$70 + tip); summer stay-and-play packages soften the blow considerably.
