“Second-generation Tight Lies keeps the shallow low-CG head and adds a mild draw bias. A standard-rung fairway that flatters players who struggle to launch woods off the deck.”
A modern revival of Barney Adams' 1996 breakthrough, built under TaylorMade ownership after it acquired Adams in 2012. The Tight Lies 2 keeps the signature cambered Tri-Sole that lets the head glide through the turf from any lie, but wraps it in a contemporary distance package: 'Ghost Slot Technology,' Adams' fifth-generation slot design, puts an expansion channel on both crown and sole, with the crown slot hidden under paint for a cleaner look at address, plus a new 'barbell' cut-through geometry to boost face flex and ball speed. A titanium-face 'Ti' variant paired a Ti crown with a heavier steel sole plate to drop CG further for even higher launch. It earned a Golf Digest Hot List Gold in 2015, a respectable showing for a value-priced wood.
Well-regarded but not iconic. Its Hot List Gold and consistently positive reviews (Golf Monthly, Golfalot) mark it as a genuinely good value wood, but it is a corporate-era refresh of a famous name rather than a landmark in its own right, and it arrived as Adams itself was being wound down inside TaylorMade. It carries reflected prestige from the original Tight Lies more than a standalone reputation.
Inexpensive and easy to find used: realistic 2026 private-party value is roughly $40-90 depending on loft, Ti vs steel, and shaft, with the Ti version fetching a small premium. As with the original, discount-retailer reconditioned listings can be priced well above what a private buyer pays. A lot of forgiving wood for the money, but no collector upside.

Aimed at mid-to-high handicaps and moderate swing speeds who want an easy-to-launch, plays-from-anywhere fairway wood; the standard steel model suits average speeds while the Ti version favors slower swings needing extra height. Lofts spanned strong-lofted 13/14 degrees up through 16/19/22, so it can slot in as everything from a strong 3-wood to a 7-wood. Faster players wanting a penetrating, spin-controlled flight should look elsewhere.
Launched in the 2014-2015 window, roughly Oct. 1, 2014 availability, against high-launch value woods from the era and TaylorMade/Callaway/Ping mainline fairways. Adams' slot tech lineage is notable: the 'Gravity Slot' concept fed directly into TaylorMade's 'Speed Pocket' after the 2012 acquisition. This was among the last Adams-branded releases before the brand was retired inside TaylorMade.
Very forgiving for a fairway wood, on the iron-anchored scale used loosely for a wood. The inherited Tri-Sole plus dual Ghost Slots keep launch high and ball speed up on strikes low or toward the toe, and the Ti version launches higher still for slower swings. The trade-off reviewers flagged is a compact head some players find less confidence-inspiring at address than a big modern fairway wood, and it won't match a low-spin tour wood for workability or peak distance.
Calibrated across the whole catalog — a tour blade scores low here on purpose; it means control, not ease.
Reading is one thing — hitting is another. Book a bay and see the numbers for yourself before you buy anywhere.
