Launched in 2020 at $159.99, the SM8 was the first Vokey wedge to use multi-material construction: tungsten weight was added to the toe of the 58-62 degree heads specifically - a North American first for the line - to push CG forward and up, raising MOI for more rotational stability at impact. A new heat treatment was applied to the face and impact area for added durability without altering feel. The same six tour grinds (F, S, M, K, L, D) carried over, and the cosmetics went minimalist: the back of the head was left entirely blank above small hosel script, with the Titleist wordmark removed as a deliberate design tribute to Bob Vokey.

Reviewers consistently described it as feeling 'solid' with more consistent direction and distance than the SM7, a real engineering step rather than a re-stamp, but it carries no scarcity or forum-driven collector demand and was itself superseded by the SM9 two years later.

Fitted players from tour level down to mid-handicap; the tungsten benefit is most relevant to golfers who play a lot of lob/sand-wedge shots where extra MOI on off-center hits matters most.
