The 0317 Hybrid was part of PXG's second-generation ('17') product wave, released 2015 as founder Bob Parsons' ultra-premium equipment brand expanded beyond its debut 0311 irons into fairway woods, hybrids and drivers. Cast from 17-4 stainless steel with an HT1770 face for ball speed, it carried PXG's signature all-black, no-alignment-aid look and its trademark seven visible tungsten weight ports on the sole, letting fitters -- and onlookers -- know exactly what's in the bag. An adjustable hosel added up to 1.5 degrees of loft change. It positioned PXG's hybrid as a premium-priced (~$400) alternative to mainstream OEM rescue clubs, built on the brand's story of obsessive, no-expense-spared engineering.
Reviewers (Plugged In Golf, Golfalot) rank it among the best-performing hybrids tested and its distinctive weight-port sole is instantly recognizable as a status symbol in golf shops and forums, but it lacks the multi-decade, cross-generational forum mythology of a true cult classic -- its notability rests on premium engineering reputation and price-driven exclusivity rather than scarcity or tour legend.
Suited to better players and serious equipment enthusiasts willing to pay driver-level money ($400 new) for a hybrid with premium materials, adjustable weighting, and PXG's cachet; the fitting-intensive weight system rewards players who get properly custom-fit. Not a sensible buy for a budget-conscious or high-handicap golfer, who gets equal or better forgiveness from a mainstream OEM hybrid at a third of the price.
Reviewers describe 'one of the sweetest sweet spots' with pure strikes rewarded, and the seven movable tungsten weights let fitters tune CG for a given player's miss pattern, but this is a compact, average-sized head aimed at good ball-strikers rather than a max-forgiveness design; it trades some outright mishit tolerance for tunability and feel.
Calibrated across the whole catalog — a tour blade scores low here on purpose; it means control, not ease.
PXG's steep depreciation off a boutique retail price is well documented: private-party/2nd Swing listings for used 0317 hybrids run roughly $75-$180 depending on condition and loft, a fraction of the ~$400 new price, reflecting both PXG's aggressive later discounting and the used golf-club market's general disregard for original MSRP.

Launched into the same 2015 hybrid market as Callaway's Big Bertha, TaylorMade's SLDR/AeroBurner, and Ping's G30, but positioned well above them on price as PXG's boutique alternative; superseded within PXG's own line by the 0317X (lower-spin variant, below) and later 0317 Gen2/Gen3/Gen4 iterations.
