“The Costco KS1 - 100% CNC-milled 303 stainless, SuperStroke CounterCore grip, adjustable heel-toe weighting, 34.5in/340g, $140. A viral cult value that genuinely out-specs its price; holds resale surprisingly well.”
The KS1 is Costco's 2024 encore to the viral 2020 Kirkland Signature putter, and it leaned harder into the value-shock formula. It is a 303 stainless-steel, 100%-CNC-milled blade in the Anser/Newport family shape, fitted with a soft 303 face insert, an interchangeable heel-toe sole-weight system, and a SuperStroke CounterCore Mid Slim 2.0 grip counterweighted at the butt. At $139.99 in-warehouse it undercut the milled competition it visually apes: Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi and Toulon milled blades were $400-plus, and even mainstream Odyssey/PING putters ran $200-plus. The pitch was simple and loud: a genuinely milled, adjustable, tour-grip putter for the price of a mid-tier stamped one. Whether it rolls the ball as well as it spec-sheets is a separate question the reviews split on.
This is a VALUE/viral cult, not a performance cult, and the distinction matters. Costco's golf drops sell out in days and spawn eBay resale spikes ($200-plus against a $140 shelf price) whenever stock is gone; the KS1 was covered as a 'hot commodity' by Sports Illustrated and got the full-story treatment from GolfWRX, MyGolfSpy and Plugged In Golf. The buzz is real and independently documented across mainstream golf media, which clears the cult bar. But it rests on the price-to-spec story, not on the roll: MyGolfSpy's data testing ranked it 20th of 23 putters, so the reverence is for what it costs, not for how it putts.
Retail is the anchor here: $139.99 new when Costco has stock. When it sells out, resale listings spike above retail ($180-225-plus on eBay) purely on scarcity, which is the opposite of the usual reconditioned-retail inflation trap and easy to mistake for appreciation. Realistic private-party value for a used one in normal supply is roughly $90-140 (i.e., at or just under retail); the SuperStroke grip and complete weight kit hold value. Do not read the sold-out resale spikes as the club's steady worth, they are a stock-out artifact, not demand for a collectible.

For a golfer who likes a traditional blade look, wants a milled feel, and is price-conscious, this is a lot of putter for the money and the weight kit lets you dial length and balance. It suits an arc-stroke player comfortable managing face rotation. Who should skip it: anyone who genuinely needs forgiveness (a high-MOI mallet is the honest answer), or a golfer who cares about tested roll performance over the value headline. Also note availability is Costco-membership-gated and intermittent.
It arrived in the 2024 boom of premium-milled putters (Scotty Cameron, Bettinardi, L.A.B.) all sitting at $400-600, and in the same window that direct-to-consumer value brands (Sub 70, Snell, Costco's own line) were undercutting the majors. The 2020 Kirkland Signature putter was its direct predecessor and proof-of-concept; the KS1 is the refined, adjustable follow-up. Its natural cross-shops are a used Odyssey White Hot or a PING Anser-style blade at similar money, both of which out-test it but lack the milled-blade cachet and adjustable weighting.
Scored on a putter-relative scale where high-MOI mallets sit high and blades sit lower. The KS1 is a compact heel-toe-weighted blade, so its MOI is modest by design; the interchangeable sole weights (stock 2x10g, optional 5g/15g kit) let a fitter tune stability and swingweight, which nudges it above a fixed-weight blade, but it will never resist twist on off-center strikes the way a mallet does. A 5 means 'about average for a weighted blade,' not 'forgiving.' Alignment aids are minimal and the face insert prioritizes a soft feel over a firm, consistent-speed roll.
Calibrated across the whole catalog — a tour blade scores low here on purpose; it means control, not ease.
Reading is one thing — hitting is another. Book a bay and see the numbers for yourself before you buy anywhere.
