The mirror image of a slice: a shot that curves sharply toward you — right-to-left for a right-hander — usually diving low and running out once it lands. The clubface is closed (pointing left of) the swing direction at impact, often from overly active hands or a grip that's rotated too far. Better players fight hooks more than slices, which is why the old saying goes "you can talk to a fade, but a hook won't listen" — hooks come out hot with less backspin and roll into trouble.
