A friendly-bet bonus won by making par or better on a hole after a shot has struck a tree. The name comes from the sound of a ball ricocheting off bark. A single barkie pays out when a golfer's ball hits any tree during the hole — off the tee, on a punch-out, even a wayward approach — and the golfer still cards par or better; some groups extend it to a double or triple barkie, doubling or tripling the payout for hitting two or three separate trees on the same hole and still scoring well. Like sandie and other junk bets, it has no bearing on the actual scorecard or handicap posting — it's a side wager settled among the group, usually worth a dollar or a point, and it rewards recovery as much as the shot itself.
