The band of attack angles that suits each club: downward on anything played from the turf, level to upward on a driver played from a tee. On tour the driver averages about −0.9° (PGA) and +2.8° (LPGA); a 6-iron is struck roughly 3–4° down and a pitching wedge closer to 4° down. The pattern is the point — irons and wedges want a descending blow so the ball is compressed before the turf, while a driver gains carry when swung level or slightly up because the ball is already perched. On the sim screen, attack angle is the first number to check when strikes run thin with irons or ballooned with driver.
