Free relief from the punched holes left behind when a course aerates — but only when the Committee switches it on with Model Local Rule E-4, because the standard Rules treat aeration holes as ordinary conditions, not damage. When the rule is in effect and your ball lies in or touches an aeration hole, you drop within one club-length in the general area, or place the ball at the nearest point of relief on the green. A hole that merely bothers your stance — or sits on your putting line — doesn't qualify. Courses typically aerate greens once or twice a year and post the rule until the surface heals, usually a matter of weeks.
