Tom Doak's argument that par 72 and 7,000 yards are habits, not requirements. Opened July 1, 2024 at Sand Valley, Sedge Valley is a 5,800-yard par 68 inspired by England's heathland gems — Swinley Forest, Walton Heath, Sunningdale. Doak found 18 great green sites first and routed the course to them, ignoring scorecard cadence: one lone par 5, and a stretch that runs 3-4-3-3. Several Wisconsin critics immediately ranked it the best course on the property.

Anyone who equates length with quality — this course exists to change your mind. Also match-play groups: the drivable par 4s and odd rhythm create constant swing-of-momentum moments.

The 3-4-3-3 run at holes 5 through 8 is the manifesto — proof a course needs no long holes to be relentless. The lone par-5 11th and the collection of tempting short par 4s make risk-reward the whole grammar of the round; the greens Doak routed everything around are the stars.

The friendliest tee-to-green course at Sand Valley — short, wide, walkable. But 'easy' it is not: the green complexes demand touch, and par 68 gives you fewer holes to fix a bad start.

Too new for a confirmed GSPro recreation as of this writing — check SGT, because popular new courses get built fast. Until then, the original Sand Valley course is in the library and shares the same dunes. When Sedge arrives, it'll be a brilliant sim course: short, strategic, quick rounds.
