Old Tom Morris stretched Portrush to 18 holes in 1889, but the Dunluce Links is Harry Colt's 1932-33 masterwork — he called it his best. Martin Ebert's pre-2019 renovation added two new dune-country holes (the 7th and 8th) to ready it for The Open's return to Northern Ireland after 68 years: Shane Lowry's emotional 2019 win, then a second modern Open in 2025. Set on cliffs above the Atlantic with Dunluce Castle on the skyline, it's links golf at full volume.

Anyone chasing modern Open history — this is Lowry's 2019 stage — and strong players who want to test their nerve on Calamity Corner. Pair it with Royal County Down for the ultimate NI double.

Calamity Corner, the 236-yard par-3 16th, demands a full carry over a yawning ravine — miss right and you're 50 feet down. The 5th, 'White Rocks,' tumbles downhill to a green hanging above the beach, and Ebert's new 7th and 8th thread giant dunes. The whole back stretch plays with the Atlantic roaring alongside.

Championship-hard: sloping fairways, dense rough, real wind, and one of golf's scariest par 3s. Beginners will find it beautiful and bruising — the adjacent Valley Links is the kinder warm-up.

Royal Portrush is in GSPro and it's one of the best links builds in the library — Calamity Corner is a legitimately great sim challenge because the ravine carry is all carry-number honesty, no bailout. The go-to Open-venue queue-up for Clubhouse members prepping a links trip or celebrating an Open week.
