Pelican sits on 1925 Donald Ross ground — the old Belleview Biltmore resort course in Belleair — that had been remuddled for decades and finally closed in 2017. Tampa's Doyle family (DEX Imaging) bought it for $3.8 million, hired Beau Welling, and rebuilt it as an ultra-polished private club with Golden Age contours Ross would recognize. Since 2023 it has hosted the LPGA's The Annika driven by Gainbridge, Annika Sorenstam's signature event, and it staged The Match with Tiger, Rory, JT and Spieth in 2022. Small property, enormous ambition.

The closing stretch decides the LPGA event every fall — risk-reward approaches over water and tightly bunkered greens produce real Sunday drama. Welling's green complexes are the star throughout: bold interior contours on an otherwise flat site.
The design itself is friendly — compact, flat, walkable, resort-width corridors — but the greens are quick and the setting is white-glove private, so beginners mostly experience it as a guest on their best behavior.
This is a hometown one — Belleair is about an hour from Wesley Chapel. Members following the LPGA's The Annika each November are watching the best women in the world play Tampa Bay's most exclusive course.
