Dick Wilson and Robert von Hagge built the Blue Monster in 1962 — the name 'Doral' splices owners Doris and Alfred Kaskel — and the PGA Tour showed up that same year and stayed until 2016. Nicklaus, Trevino, Floyd and Faldo all won here; Tiger took it four times. Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner dramatically reworked it in 2014, restoring Wilson's diagonal-bunker, shape-your-shot intent, and since 2022 it has been a LIV Golf staple. Water on roughly half the holes and relentless Florida wind earned the nickname honestly.

The 18th is the whole argument: a long par 4 with water hugging the entire left side and wind usually into you — for decades one of the hardest closing holes on the PGA Tour. The par-3 4th over water is the pretty counterpoint.
