Opened in 2001 on flat Naples land, Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry blasted through limestone to carve 72 acres of lakes, using the fill to build ridgelines up to 58 feet over the fairways — elevation that doesn't exist naturally here. Client Gary Chensoff, playing from the tips after beating a rare cancer, wanted a course as uncompromising as that outlook; he named it for the Calusa Indians' shell mounds on nearby Marco Island, which the man-made ridges recalled. It's now a 275-member private club whose roster includes PGA Tour players, and its Bermuda turf is cited alongside Streamsong as the firmest, fastest in the state.

The 16th is a 185-yard par 3 dropping off the central hill to a peninsula green over water — the postcard hole. The 9th plays from an elevated tee over a lake to a green tucked below the clubhouse, and the short par-4 8th is a genuine gambling hole with a shallow green cut into a dune.

Not a beginner course — firm, fast Bermuda and a walking/caddie culture built for accomplished single-digit players, not a first-timer's warm-up round.

In-sim it plays as a firm, fast, tricky-around-the-green test better suited to Clubhouse's low-handicap members than casual bay time.
