Bougle Run owes its existence to a scrub fire: in September 2019 a burn behind Lost Farm exposed a track up a sand dune, revealing terrain owner Richard Sattler had never fully appreciated. Inspired by the short courses he'd seen in Scotland and Ireland, Sattler brought in Bill Coore, who walked the dunes and initially sketched 24 holes before settling on 14 — twelve par threes and two par fours, par 57 across 2,349 yards. When COVID shut Tasmania's borders, Barnbougle's own crew — greenkeepers, bar staff, housekeepers — built the course themselves in just 123 days, and it opened on 31 March 2021 as the joyful third act of the Bridport dunes, playable in about 90 minutes.

Everyone at Barnbougle — beginners, kids, and scratch players settling bets; it is the ideal arrival-day loop or second-round-of-the-day alongside the Dunes and Lost Farm.

The downhill par-three 10th is the star, dropping into a punchbowl green ringed by dunes that funnels balls toward the cup — aces are almost expected; the two par fours (4th and 8th) add elevated-tee drama.

One of the friendliest ways into links golf anywhere: from the shortest tees every hole can be played with a putter, rounds take about 90 minutes, and there is no water to lose balls in.

Locals treat it as the great equalizer of the property — putter-only challenges from the front tees are a genuine Barnbougle tradition, and staff who helped build it during lockdown still point out their handiwork.

Par 57 at 2,349 yards, so it is really a wedge-and-short-iron experience; simulators capture the yardages but none of the wind, firm turf and dune-funnel bounces that are the entire point here.
