Pete Dye's wild child in Kohler, Wisconsin — the tougher, prettier half of Blackwolf Run, built when the resort split its original 1988 course (Golf Digest's Best New Public Course) into 36 holes in 1990. Dye folded nine of the original holes together with nine new ones carved inside a vast bend of the Sheboygan River. Water touches 14 of 18 holes, the slope hits 151, and every hole has a name — Made in Heaven, Hell's Gate, Cathedral Spires, Dyehard. Routinely ranked among America's best public courses.

Low-handicappers who want peak Pete Dye — strategy, terror, and beauty in equal parts — and anyone who thinks Whistling Straits gets too much of the Kohler spotlight.

The 5th, 'Made in Heaven,' is a stunner; the 8th offers a split-fairway gamble from an elevated tee; the 9th, 'Cathedral Spires,' dares you to flirt with the Sheboygan River for a short approach; and 'Dyehard,' the 18th, runs a single bunker the entire left side.

One of the hardest public courses in America — 151 slope, water on 14 holes, forced carries, classic Dye visual intimidation. Beginners will lose a dozen balls. Play Meadow Valleys first; earn this one.
