Greeting-card magnate Mike Keiser hired an unknown 20-something Scot, David McLay Kidd, to build a true links on remote Oregon cliffs, and when it opened in 1999 the comparisons ran straight to Dornoch and Ballybunion. Walking-only, firm and fast, gorse-lined, wind-whipped — it proved Americans would fly to the middle of nowhere for real links golf, and an entire resort (and industry) followed. The best holes split between Pacific-cliff drama and rumpled inland dunescape.

Anyone who loves golf, honestly — but especially links purists and buddies-trip crews. It rewards creative, low, running shots over aerial bombing. Bring a caddie and no expectations about score.

The par-4 4th turns the corner to your first full Pacific reveal, and the 16th — a cliff-top par 4 on a site once considered for the clubhouse — is the postcard. The sleeper is the inland stretch like the 10th, smart strategic golf draped over natural dunes.

Hard for beginners: constant wind, gorse that eats balls, and walking-only over big terrain. But fairways are wide and the ground game is forgiving — a bogey golfer who keeps it low and in play will have a great day.

In GSPro and one of the most-played courses on the platform. Plays honest in the sim: turn the wind to 15-20 mph and the firmness up, and it becomes a proper links exam. A must-queue for any Clubhouse member who wants to preview a Bandon pilgrimage.
