A luxurious parkland estate around a 19th-century manor house on the River Maigue, completely reimagined by Tom Fazio in 2016-2017 (reopened 2018); host of the 2027 Ryder Cup, the competition's centenary edition.
No. 18 — The Manor House holeSignature
Par 5 · 585 yds
A Robert Trent Jones Sr. risk-and-reward par 5 with the River Maigue curling along the left and the 19th-century Manor House rising behind the green — players must choose whether to cross the river with their second shot for an easier angle in.
"Water comes into play on numerous holes along the river; caddies help clients avoid the flanking hazards under tournament-style pressure."
Robert Trent Jones Sr. built the original course on this County Limerick estate in 1995; Pádraig Harrington won an Irish Open here in 2007. Then JP McManus hired Tom Fazio for a 2016-17 rebuild that borders on the absurd: the entire site sand-capped with over 200,000 tonnes of sand, 50 miles of drainage, fibre-optic conduit laid around every hole for future broadcasts. The point of all that plumbing arrives in September 2027, when Adare hosts the Ryder Cup in the competition's centenary year — Ireland's first since the K Club in 2006.
Ryder Cup pilgrims and special-occasion golfers. If you're going to pay resort-Ireland money once, this is arguably the most flawlessly conditioned course in Europe.
The 18th is the one everyone talks about: a risk-reward par 5 with the River Maigue cutting in front of the green, purpose-built for a Ryder Cup finish. The river holes generally give the course its teeth amid all the manicure.
Immaculate but long, water-strewn championship parkland. Wide enough to enjoy from forward tees, but the price and the occasion make it a splurge, not a learning ground.
Not confirmed in the GSPro community catalogs yet — expect that to change as 2027 approaches. Meanwhile, for water-guarded Ryder Cup parkland pressure in a bay, Le Golf National's closing stretch is the closest sweat GSPro offers.
Effectively hotel guests only — you stay at the manor to get a tee time, and the green fee runs around €495 in peak season on top of the room. Book far ahead of 2027.
