The only course in the world co-designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus — The King and The Golden Bear, friends and rivals since the 1960s, teamed up for this one-off that opened in November 2000 beside the (since-relocated) World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine. The front nine is classic Florida — towering pines, live oaks, coquina rock and water — while the back opens into a links-ish feel. True to its authors, it puts a premium on driving the ball.

Anyone who wants Palmer and Nicklaus on the same scorecard — a genuine one-of-one. Strong drivers of the ball get the most out of the design's DNA.

The coquina-rock-framed water holes on the front nine are the visual signatures, and the driving corridors through 200-year-old oaks reward exactly the aggressive tee ball both designers were famous for. The open back nine flips the test to wind judgment.

Resort golf with teeth: water and length are real from the wrong tees, but fairways are generous and the vibe is welcoming. Play the correct boxes and it is a very enjoyable big-name round for improving players.
