"Caddies are strongly recommended for first-timers navigating the blind approaches, the Road Hole bunker, and the shared double greens. Tee times are largely ballot- or operator-allocated. Confirmed sold as an official licensed course add-on for Foresight Sports' FSX/FSX Play software ('St Andrews Links - The Old Course'), supporting is_in_fsx=true. In GSPro, the Old Course was previously available under its real name but was pulled from the platform in June 2023 amid a trademark/licensing dispute (GSPro was alleged to be offering it, TPC courses, etc. without proper licenses); it has not reappeared under an alias as of this research, so is_in_gspro=false is correct as of today, though this could change if GSPro secures a license."

Nobody designed the Old Course — six centuries of wind, sheep, and golfers did, with Old Tom Morris tidying up the edges in the 1800s. This is the ground where the game's rules, rhythms, and even the 18-hole standard took shape. The seven massive double greens, the Swilcan Burn, Hell Bunker, and the Road Hole are the original vocabulary of golf architecture; every links course since is quoting it. It has hosted The Open 30 times, more than any other venue, and the town of St Andrews is literally built around the closing hole.

Every golfer, once — it is the game's homecoming. Especially rewarding for players who love ground-game creativity: putting from 40 yards off the green is not just legal here, it is correct.

The 17th Road Hole: a blind drive over the hotel sheds to a shallow green pinched between the Road bunker and an actual paved road you play off — golf's most famous hard par. Then the 1st/18th double fairway and the Swilcan Bridge, the most storied walk in the sport. The 11th (High) with the Strath bunker is the original Eden template.

Kinder than its reputation: fairways are enormous (aim left almost all day) and there are no forced carries. The pot bunkers are jail and the greens are acres wide, so expect long lag putts, not lost balls.

Not available in GSPro — the community recreations were taken down at the rights holder's request. A bucket-list course to follow on TV and in the Library; if a licensed sim version ever lands, it goes straight to the top of the queue.

Genuinely public — a trust course shared with the town. Enter the daily ballot two days ahead, book far in advance via St Andrews Links packages, or queue at dawn as a walk-up single. High-season green fee runs roughly £300+.
